Ha, I did it - eight days (at about five minutes to midnight, I kid you not!).  Using ver 1.1.  I was waiting for the LIPS to stop working too early in the evening but they kept going, the good little fellows...

Will upload proof as soon as I get Pocket Scores (have backed up sttings file again just before last upgrade).  For those who are interested, deay eight looked like this:

2 water towers
3 windmills
12 sheds
Population 23/24 (depending on what mood the game was in)
Economy - around 102
Happiness - around 94
Pollution - around 25
Buildings - 61

I finally did it as well! Managed to complete the final upgrade at around 11pm on day 8. Phew!

My configuration before the final 3 upgrades was:
Population: 22
Sheds: 20
Water-towers: 3
Pollution: More than 60

Which later became the config which I use very often:
Sheds: 13
Water-towers: 3
Pollution 53
Buildings: 64

Pontogonia looks like it is 70% occupied (AirIsland Map)....oh my gosh, it really is BIG!

For my fastest island, my first day's income was 599 and second day was around 1.7K. I'm pretty impressed the first day income got up so high and knew that was the best chance for me to complete in 8 days. I keep aiming for high population and was very careful with handling the LIPs, destruction and also placement of buildings. Fortunately, there weren't major faults throughout the game and I just pull it off (marginally) in 8 days. Let's hope more players will get down to 8 or 9 days. big_smile

Any guidance for poor folks, like myself, who just can't seem to get below 13 days???

8 days seems impossible to me.

I normally gather all of the resources I need to complete all the gravitator repairs before I being the actual repairs.

Even though I have completed 1 island in 8 days, I must still say that 8 days target is really tough. It really depends on very careful planning and alot of luck. I don't even think I can repeat that feat again. I was stuck with many 9/10 day islands until luck came about and I got one done in 8 days. Completing an island in 9 days isn't really that hard once u get sufficient experience.

I've actually compiled some of the tips/hints & observations I gained from my experience and also tips/hints from other players. I have posted them over at these pages:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

Part 3 of the guide is the critical one as I have listed pretty details goals to achieve in order to complete an island in 9 or 10 days.

To go down to 8 or 9 days, you need to aim for a very high population within the first 3 or 4 days, and forget about sheds (of course you should have at least 1 shed around) until your population gets sufficiently high. For the first few days, my islands are usually flooded with houses and loads of LIPs (usually 15 to 20 and gravitator level below 3). After that, I slowly start to build sheds and destroy the houses.

The reason why a high population is my first goal is because it is easiest to increase the population only in the first few days. Furthermore, you do not have much money to spend on other stuff. Houses are the cheapest, so make full use of the limited funds to go for high population. smile

Hmm, completing the last three upgrades in one shot.  Maybe that's what would make the difference.  I always did an upgrade when I had about 10K more of gold than was required.

Thanks for the tips.

Back to the game...

I just don't get it.  It takes me 8 or more days just to repair the first part of the gravitator. sad
How do you people do it???
Also, I'm having trouble uploading my game scores.  It will upload my island but not my other scores. sad

Finally a member of the "Eight Days" club...

Going into the final day (actually, the last two days), I had:

22 LIPs
5 windmills
15 shacks
39 spruce

In Day 8, those little buggers cranked out 41K in gold...

At about 3:00pm on Day 9, I stopped repairing.  At about 6:00pm, I had 100K and started building out the gravitator.  Tore down seven shacks, added a water tower (still being built @ end of game) and filled in more spruce to get pollution down.

I decided to name my island "LuckyLand" in memory of my wonderful dog who passed away earlier this month.
