Hi guys!

I'm also was very bad on Spb Xonix II, also because I use iPaq 2210 with his awful joypad. But, I found the way how to play this game and get to the 12th and even higher level.

Well, the rule number one is Do Not Hurry! Do not try to finish current level as faster as possible. Try to catch some small areas till the snowflake bonus appeared, then get it and finish this level without difficulties.
This hint also helped me to get additional lifes, cause "Heart" bonus is appeared also on every level.

Have fun and good luck on Xonix II fields,
lexuz.

I feel your pain Lexuz, I have an HP Ipaq 2210 also.

The joystick is a joke and I haven't done any better with the stylus.

Definately make sure and get all the hearts on the first levels, they will come in handy.  Also, what works for me is to cut very small pieces that partitions the main area off.  If you make a few of these the balls will get stuck in an area longer and let you work on other areas.

Another trick that works for me with those magnets on the later levels is to stop my laser in the corner and wait for them to come.  When they are in the corner with you, you can pretty easily make a box around them if you go about twice their width and then go down and cut across.  Hopefully that is clear and it helps.

In general I stay away from the 2x powerup.  It is usually better for me if I take things slow.

Oh and if you see the lightning bolt powerup, you really want to get that.  It turns your laser blue.  Then you can go through enemies and any enemy that goes across your line is automatically killed.  It is pretty sweet.

The lightning bolt is sweet! I discovered what it did by accident as I was totally clueless.

I try to avoid the 2x powerup, too. I have enough trouble controlling the laser with the D-Pad of my X50V. It just complicates things.

I use your strategy, Micah. I cut off small sections at a time, too. I haven't managed to finish the game yet, but I've made it pretty close. My biggest problem is that I still get in a hurry sometimes and lose a life. I have to keep reminding myself to slow down!

OK I found either an easter egg or an awesome glitch for Xonix.

When you start a new game, on level 1 wait the 10 to 15 seconds until the heart shows up.  Get it and then close the game.  Open the game and choose continue and you will have the extra life, but it will start you at the beginning of level 1.  So, wait another 10 to 15 seconds and another heart will show up.

Just keep doing this until you have enough lives.

I just stopped around the 32 mark, so there might be a max life for the game but I don't know.

While you are waiting for the heart to show up you can cut some of the wood too.  The wood that you cut will also carry through when you continue.  It is pretty sweet.

These extra lives should help you guys get past the later levels.  Enjoy.

Looks like I am not the only one who discovered the glitch accidentally. For those who are patient enough, you should be able to complete the game with a stunning score. Actually, I think it is only possible to score up to 10,00 without making use of the glitch. THere are only 32 levels if I remember correctly.

My high score was 12,693. That was after completing all 30 levels - no cheats.

Noice Cheryl.  Seriously that is a great score.  However, this was a hint for "those guys who can't play Xonix good".  It can be really frustrating to get stuck at one point over and over again.

Plus with this cheat (and a LOT of patience) you could theoretically get an unlimited score.  I tried playing through the game with lots of lives and stopping / continuing a few times and it was a piece of cake getting through the 30 levels and getting the new high score.

I got in the 12k score range without cheating too, it is way difficult.  (I remember when you were just a few hundred below me and recently you passed me bye...)

Another tip is to aim for the Menu button when you are in trouble. When you think the situation is going out of hand, you can just hit the menu button and exit. That way, you saved 1 life. This trick is even more useful for Arkaball.

Another small trick: Let the laser stop at the border. That way you can position it exactly where you want to cut the line, instead of having to find the right moment in full movement...

How you make the laser stop at the border?

So let's be honest - how many people are using the cheat to achieve their high scores? I'm not, but I am curious. Not judging anyone. I just want to know.

We will remove this cheat in the next minor version and we think about clearing either all hihgscores or at least those that were defiantly got using this cheat. What do you think about clearing the Xonix highscores table after the cheat is removed? Do you think we should do it or not? Or only those that were got using the cheat for sure?

I admit that i used the cheat method to get the high score. not because i want to get on top of the highscore table but because i just want to finish the game.

hands up if you want to clear the highscore table after fixing the loophole

I admit I use the cheat, but only for getting resources. So I have not been uploading my high scores for Xonix to be fair to others. Actually, unless u finish the whole game in one go without exiting, it is also using the cheat in some way, although unknowingly. It's quite hard to tell which are the true high scores in Xonix now. roll

I don't have a problem with you clearing the high score board.

Don't forget about Arkaball, also. Someone mentioned that exiting the game and returning resets the game - at least the position of the sled and it removes the effects of any power ups you had. I don't think this would effect the high score table.

I've stopped using the cheat as I got quite sick and tired of it. But I notice that my Xonix scores have improved by quite alot. Perhaps I am more careful and more familiar with how to deal with most levels now. Now, I only need to play Xonix for 3-5 times to have enough resources for the whole game.

One thing about clearing the high score board...members can always upload them again. So would that be effective or is there an effective way of differentiating which are the genuine high scores without using cheats?

I'm guessing that the "cheat" feature (i.e., getting extra life, then re-starting game) has been removed.  I have Version 1.1 (310) dated April 19, 2006.

So, will Spb reset the high scores for Xonix now?  Or at least, archive the old scores and set up a new high score table? :-)

Just a followup...I got my current high score in Xonix (17225) without the cheat (which is not possible in Ver 1.1).

I'm very impatient, which makes this game harder for me.  You definitely want to wait for the snowflakes whenever possible.  I also noted that around Level 9 or 10 (can't remember which), more than one extra life icon appears.
