Looks like PepDaCrusoe has finally broken the 8-day barrier.  I am really impressed with this (having several 8-day games, but always about 4-6 "hours" into the next day).

Can't wait to hear how he/she pulled it off.

Hi Zuben.
I didn't know if this forum was still alive.
Some indications on how to complete Island fast.
Build second shed as soon as you have 7 LIPS (2 houses and 1 shed). Then build (and populate) 1 or 2 more houses (11 or 14 LIPS), then a additionnal shed, and so on. I'm not sure yet what the optimum population/shed count rate is, but I'm sure you should not wait too long before building sheds...
Don't spoil money in repairing houses during first days. In the contrary, destroy "old" houses while new ones are building up. A building up house can accomodate 3 LIPS, but your LIPS won't spoil a work activity in stupidly sweeping the court (10$). You maximize chances to earn 80$ if all the houses are building up and the only available work places are the sheds.
You can aim for 700$ on first day, 2300$ on 2nd day, 4000$ on 3rd day, ...
First gravitator repair at end day 4.
It's important to find the best layout for constructions, in order to have minimum lost areas.
I build the first trees during day 3 or 4. I build a lake during day 4, to meet the pollution requirements to repair gravitator. Then I destroy the lake later on.
I don't use chapels.
To earn the 75000$ required for final 3 stages, it takes approximately 40 hours, with 5 water tanks, 15 sheds and mysterious but expected high population (the population counter is completely crazy when the island is very busy...)

More details if I succeed in doing it again....

Hey...thanks for the great post, PepDaCrusoe, and congrats!

Like you, I build and destroy houses as quickly as possible, but have to be careful not to kill off any LIPs that might be in them.  Day 1 will usually have at least 3 LIPs, one shed and one house.   As I continue to add LIPs, I try to make sure that there is enough sheds+houses to shelter everyone during nighttime so they won't walk away.  I also will add trees at around 9:00-10:00PM to bump up happiness and make LIPs work some more.

Unlike you, I add Linden trees early and frequently, replacing each with Spruce trees after 1st Gravitator repair (Day 4).  Also, I upgrade the Gravitator again and add windmills on Day 6 (usually 5 windmills).

Income rates tend to double over the 1st six days (gold = 600, 1600-1800, 4000, 8000, 16000, 32000).

I've seen the crazy population changes you mentioned, but it's been random; I don't know how to affect it.

I haven't used lakes since my first game and haven't added towers until that last mad rush to upgrade and complete each game on the final day.  Maybe I'll give that a try.

I had promised a more detailed post if I was able to complete again in 7 days.
I did it...
I was ready to complete in the morning of day8, so I had some time to read my island report "mails" and write down the main indicators.

Money earnings:
Day 1 : 661$
Day 2 : 2624$
Day 3 : 3624$
Day 4 : 13756$
Day 5 : 24620$
Day 6 : 46224$
Day 7 : 47007$ (at midday)

Gavitator repairs:
Day 4, 21:45
Day 5, 20:51
Day 6, 13:37
Day 8, 11:00 11:07 11:15

Following Zuben's indications, I have tried without building a lake. The result has been two 8 days islands.
Both 7 days islands have been completed with help of a lake build in day 4 and destroyed later on.

Very important : the building layout must be optimised to avoid island area loss. Here is how I do, from the very beginnig :
Build house at default place (center of island). Population=1.
Build house at default place (top left corner).Population=2.
Build shed 4 pixels to the rigth of the default place (just enough to build a house at the rigth of the shed later on).
Destroy first house as soon as the LIP is out.
Repair the shed (but not the remaining house) each time it has to be repaired.
Build house at default place as soon as you have enough money (expectedly before sunset). Destroy the other house as soon as possible. Now, you have 2 LIPS forced to work on the shed only during all the time needed to build the house. Population=3.
Repair the shed (but not the house) each time it has to be repaired.
Build house at default place as soon as you have enough money. Destroy the other house as soon as possible. Now, you have 3 LIPS forced to work on the shed only. Population=4.
Build house at default place (places will alternate between center of island, and top left and top rigth corners, and may vary according to the LIPS positions at build time). DON'T destroy the other house now. Population=5. You can reach this population count before end of day 1 (you should if you expect to complete fast).
Continue like that until population=7 (2 houses and 1 shed; ratio LIPS/shed=7).
Build a new shed just below the first one (the time required to spare 450$ seems very long, but it's worth waiting).
Build a house at default place, and destroy another one as soon as possible. Population=8.
From now, you may repair also the houses that you will keep for a long time (the top left and top right ones).
Continue populating the island, until you reach population= 14 (4 houses and 2 sheds; ratio LIPS/shed=7).
You may start to build some trees in the bottom line of the island, starting from bottom rigth corner.
You may change the ratio LIPS/shed now to 4 (build 1 shed, then 1 house full of LIPS). The sheds are all aligned in one row. There is room for 2 houses at left, and for 1 house ar rigth (except for the top left corner, where the gravitator takes some place).
When you have built 6 sheds in one row, the the next sheds will be build in an adjacent row, starting from the bottom left. There is enough room for 1 tree line under the sheds, and 1 tree row at rigth of the shed row.
You will have to choose between building houses, sheds or trees. But spare some room for the lake (I always build it at the bottom left corner, when money begins to rise faster than I'm able to spend it, and pollution is high despite the trees).
Population will be around 26 at this time.
It's time to repair the gravitator now. The island is completely covered with buildings, and sometimes I have to destroy a shed in order to meet the pollution requirement for first upgrade (try to anticipate, and don't destroy any shed).
After the first upgrade, I replace the linden trees by spruces, then I replace the lake by spruces, then I destroy the house(s) at the rigth side of the island, until I have two full rows of 6 sheds. You'll have to accept a population decrease.
Then I  build a third row of 6 sheds.
Take a look on my completed and cancelled islands, you'll see the reliefs of these 3 rows of sheds (18 sheds, no house anymore, almost all remaining area filled with trees, except where I want to build mills - at the left side of the island, below the gravitator).
Repair gravitator, build 4 mills.
Repair gravitator, build 4 water tanks.
Destroy some sheds, and build trees, because pollution is too high. Here, the layout optimisation will make the difference : the total number of trees can be dramatically reduced if you have not aligned perfectly your buildings.
Usually, I keep 13 sheds.
Economy above 120, Happiness above 100, pollution below 20 (approximative values, I'm not sure of the good compromize).

And now, the secret weapon.
Keep an eye on your population after the second upgrade (when you have mills built). Sometimes, the population decreases without known reason below the value permitted by the available buildings. And it is real : if you count your LIPS, they have really disapeared, and your earnings are very disappointing.
If this happens, just quit the game, and come back again in the game : the population will be high again (usually population =21, despite the fact that I have only 13 sheds....).  And this is real also : LIPS will spead out of the sheds.
I usually have to do that several time during the final days of the game.

And now, who will be the first with 6 days ?
I think it's possible, and I expect to be the first one.
